7 a Side

Our Junior 7 a side team came so close to winning the Battalion Cup on the 3G pitches in Ballyclare.

We were tied at the end on thirteen points with the 1st Ballyclare but lost out since we had lost our head to head match with them by 3-2.

We kicked off in rampant form against the 1st Ballylinney crushing them 6-1 with an early goal by Josh Lown followed by a nap-hand five goal haul by Stuart Carlisle.

Another six was to follow as the 3rd Larne fell by 6-0 with Stuart having to settle for a hat trick - the other scorers were Ross Jamison, Kris Dynes and Christian Robinson.

A fine 3-1 win followed against the 1st Greenisland who had just defeated the eventual winners; another two for Carlisle and one for Dynes.

The first setback came against the 5th Carrick with Carlisle's goal earning a 1-1 draw.

Next came the key match which we lost to the 1st Ballyclare by 3-2 with our goals coming from Lown and Carlisle.

The final match was an epic against our old rivals from the 7th Carrick - a fine defensive display by Stuart McCloughlin and some excellent saves by Will Aston kept the opposition at bay despite ferocious shooting from Curtis Bell. We finally edged it 4-2 with Kris Dynes grabbing the glory with a well taken hat trick - the omnipresent Carlisle slotted home the other to take his tally to 13, making him the tournament's top scorer.

A great afternoon's work with excellent football and played with both spirit and attitude that did credit to the 8th, Holy Trinity and the Boys Brigade.
